@jonathanharker @strypey there were efforts at that, and big orgs, like the #MinistryOfEducation could've thrown their weight & resources behind it, in collaboration with their counterparts in other countries... but they didn't. That'd involve coordination, cooperation, sharing, and collegiality - all anathema to education, apparently. Nope. Instead, they just paid a LOT for US proprietary software, mostly written for US-based corporate cogs.

Anyone from #Aotearoa NZ's #MinistryOfEducation on Mastodon/in the Fediverse? They always kept a vanishingly low profile on Twitter... it'd be very cool to see a lot more institutional engagement here. In fact, it'd give me a much needed bit of confidence if the Min of Ed could organise itself to have *its own Fediverse presence*! Come on, exceed my expectations!
