#Zambia's #miombo #woodlands may be #adapted to #fire, but illegal burns can still threaten its unique #flora and #fauna, so I'm proud of all the #Gonzaga in #Chimfunshi students who leapt into action when volunteers were needed to quell the flames on a nearby #dambo (flooded #grassland)!

The Maputo Declaration, issued in August, looks to halt and address the threats to the #Miombo woodlands, a biome of tropical and subtropical grassland, savanna and shrubland that stretches across some 2 million square kilometres of central and southern #Africa. Characterised by the prevalence of the Brachystegia tree genus, they are a vital habitat for thousands of animal and plant species and are facing massive plunder.
