As I get ready to start commuting again tomorrow, a reminder that today's commuter train (the GO) will get you from Union Station in downtown #Toronto to Port Credit (#Mississauga) the closest station to where I get off, a full 10 minutes faster than the Great Western did 160 years ago. #history

I regularly ride west to #Mississauga and east through #Scarborough and constantly have to make dangerous jogs down city streets drivers treat like highways. Here's to hoping the new mayor stitches the system together, encouraging more people to ride (I'm sure drivers would be happy with fewer cars on our perpetually clogged roads). Toronto, especially outside of downtown has so much space that, with a little vision, it could become an urban cycling hub. #BikeTooter #topoli

I love survey #maps of town sites for their layers. This one shows what was there when the surveyor visited - "Woods composed chiefly of Small Pine and Alder" - but also the names of those who later purchased the lots the surveyor laid out. Still, it neglects the deep human #history of the place, though it mentions the #Mississaugas' continued presence.
