Mister Worf’s Neighborhood #23

When reading the Fred Rogers biography The Good Neighbor (audiobook delightfully narrated by LeVar Burton) it stuck with me that Mister Rogers wasn’t the perfect parent we might envision him to be. That being said, I’m sure he was still orders of magnitude better than Worf.

Given how uneven my production was with Mister Worf's Neighborhood last year, I'm actually kind of proud of myself that falling short of my goal of finishing the 40th strip (34 main, 6 COVID) was such a close miss.

The upheaval of my social media footprint has me kind of up in the air about what to do with it in the future. Part of me wants to wrap it up, while the rest of me has a hard time letting go of the character. I guess we'll see.

Every now and again I consider redoing the Mister Worf’s Neighborhood logo. It was kind of hastily drawn and is a little low-res, but going back an tightening it up kind of feels like a betrayal.

I’m a fan of the GK Chesterton quote, “anything worth doing is worth doing badly.” There are a whole host of things that I will never be good at, especially by my own measure, but we certainly don’t have to be good something to do it. You don’t even have to get better at it… but chances are you will.

This is one of the few times that I’ve posted this when I haven’t actually been feeling what’s in that speech bubble.

Writing this strip has often required a level of optimism and hope that I rarely actually feel, but it’s the world that I would like to live in.

I appreciate the people who legitimately believe that we can do better and that we will.

My personal headcanon for the Fred Rogers Memorial Statue is that it is actual an entity that was plucked from the bowels of a volcano and set to watch over and protect the city of Pittsburgh.
