If you or someone you know lives in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs and struggles with the rising #CostOfLiving, I’ve recently become aware of a group called Eastern Food Rescue.

They take fresh food (bread, meat, dairy, vegetables, fruit etc) from supermarkets, and distribute it for #Free at markets run twice-daily.

How does it work? Well, supermarkets and bakeries in the area kindly reserve food that is fine, but at its Best Before, or has damaged packaging. Eastern Food Rescue volunteers collect the food in their cars, drive it to #Mitcham, then set up a market where people can line up for their turn to walk through and fill their shopping bags.

They have a Facebook page, but no presence here on Mastodon. If you want more info, just ask me and I’ll see what I can find out for you.
