Good morning #Mazeldon and #Jewish folks across the fediverse. In response to the unthinkable numbers who perished in Maui who remain unrecovered, the The International #Shmirah Hub is scheduling virtual shomrim to read tehillim and daven with kavannah for the safety of their bodies until they can be found. If you have a half hour for this #mitzvah you can visit https://www.shmirah.com/ to volunteer.

Shabbat Shalom!
We have a new design that states a fundamental Jewish concept: Tikkun Olam, to help repair or heal the world.

... What a #Mitzvah I didn't know I needed, didn't know to ask for, and was given anyway. I found a photo of that day. Thanks, brother. You're both thought and action. A rare gift I'll always appreciate! ...
On those rare occasions when chronic pain sufferers have enough energy to do a few good deeds, let it be said that they are using “serving spoons.”
We all should help whoever we can, whenever we can. Even if it hurts.

The Last Two Mitzvahs
There are 248 “do this” mitzvahs in the Torah (and 365 “don’t do this” mitzvahs).
Counting in chronological order, number 247, the second-to-last mitzvah that Moses delivers to the Jewish people, is the mitzvah of Hakhel: Assemble the people once in seven years and relive the giving of the Torah.
What is it about this particular mitzvah that requires it be given on the last day of Moses’ life?

Ep. # 364 - Fringe Spirituality
Topic: #Tzitzit Project is an invitation for everyone, and every body, to engage with the #mitzvah of wearing the four-cornered ritual garment, with fringes, called a #TallitKatan (also referred to as tzitzit). Its co-founders, Julie Weitz and Jill Spector, (continued...)

In 1976, the #Lubavitcher Rebbe added the #mitzvah of Ahavat Yisrael (love for a fellow Jew) to his mitzvah campaign - a shortlist of practical actions he proposed with the goal of encouraging every Jew, regardless of his or her degree of religious observance, to do a G‑dly deed.

About #converting to #Judaism: Judaism is not a religion, it is a #kehillah (tribe/family.) One can't "identify" as a Jew. One must go through #gerut ("conversion) to Judaism by
1. A course of study with a rabbi & Jewish teachers
2. Fulfilling the #mitzvah of #tevilah (immersion in a mikveh)
3. For men, circumcision or hatafat dam brit.
4. Joining a (real world, not social media) #synagogue, #havurah, kehillah

The mitzvah of kindling Chanukah lamps is very dear. One must be very careful in its observance to publicize the miracle and thus increase our praise of God and our expression of thanks for the miracles which He wrought on our behalf.

I have only a vague sense of the meanings of "mitzvah" and "mensch." There is an opinion that I associate with popular Xianity (perhaps not universal) that good acts alone cannot make a good person. Am I correct in thinking that Judaic thinking takes a different approach?
