When her daughter was 5, a friend asked me if I’d take care of her musical education if anything happened to her parents. Clearly, no one needs to die for this to happen, so I’ve been making an annual playlist cd for her on her birthday ever since. She turns 15 next week and I think everyone involved loves this tradition. I still send a CD for old times sake, but they’re all on Spotify/Apple Music too because we’re not savages.
