There has been some #strange behavior lately when going between #KDE #Okular and #GNOME (this started last week)

Question: today, I use #ffmpeg in #linux #terminal if I want to convert a video from #MKV to #MP4, using this command:

ffmpeg -i file.mkv file2.mp4

Problem is: it takes forever, but the main issue is that my laptop goes to 100% processor use and the cooler fans go nuts, looks like it will take off or set my house on fire.

Is there any app that is more efficient for this? I can't use a cloud service, I have lots of videos to convert, it's not practical

When I go to render and output the project Davinci Resolve also crashes at the end but the file renders and saves fine. I've tried changing to software decoding but it then fails to read the files at all. #DavinciResolve #OBS #help #mkv #mp4

#DavinciResolve / #OBS wizzes - I'm having some issues with getting proxies created in Davinci. I've started recording as .mkv files rather than .mp4 (I've never had crashing issues but don't want to chance it and lose a whole recording). I remux the .mkv to .mp4 in OBS and I can open and manipulate the resulting .mp4 file in Davinci, but when I try and create proxies it immediately reports an error. Anyone experienced this and fixed it? #help #mkv #mp4

Vanaf de Starbucks op zag ik gisterochtend hoe het eerste bankje werd verwijderd. Twee werkmannen schroefden het gevaarte los van de grond, en tilden het op plateautjes op wielen. Opvallend was met hoeveel zorg ze te werk gingen. Met grijze dekens tegen het krassen. Alsof ze een Steinway verhuisden.
Even opvallend was de gelatenheid waarmee de reizigers dit ondergingen en hun zitplekken verlieten.
Toen ik drie uur later weer op het station was, waren alle bankjes verdwenen.

I have a Plex server and I use a combination of MakeMKV, Handbrake, and MKVToolNix GUI to import my blu-rays.

This works well, but the one feature I would really like for MKVToolNix is to be able to batch operations like "make subtitle track 2 default on", or "clear the title field" across multiple files. It kills me doing this by hand for 50 episodes of a show.

@stux I think there used to be a similar uproar against formats like #MKV and #WEBM at some point as well but I believe those are nowadays not as disliked.
I mean #MP4, #MP3 are great and all, but there are other great #formats as well for #audio and #video 😸
