The "Queen of Gospel" Mahalia Jackson played a pivotal role in the Civil Rights Movement, advising and inspiring Martin Luther King Jr. During the 1963 March on Washington, Jackson urged King to speak from the heart, which led to the iconic "I have a dream" speech. Her voice and wisdom were indispensable to the movement. #CivilRights #MahaliaJackson #MLK

@Deglassco @blackmastodon@a.gup.pe @BlackMastodon@chirp.social Thank you for sharing the history of Black Americans desire for #CivilRights #BlackMastodon. I am thankful for all who were involved in bringing us closer to a more equal, just country. #MLK was pivotal. Although legislation was passed guaranteeing equal rights, we still have a long way to go as some, GOP, are trying to take rights away. And there isn’t equal treatment under the law still. Horrible!

Harcourd Klinefelter, a #mennonite minister, recalls the "fantastic group of people" around #MLK in his organization and church. "Without the very great commitment and effort of many persons, who were often just so inspiring but who never appeared in the media, the Movement would never have come as far as it did." Harky Klinefelter, who later moved to the Netherlands continued to work as an activist and trainer for #nonviolence and #humanrights in many conflicts.

Harcourd (Harki) Klinefelter, former press officer and friend of #MartinLutherKing:
"The speeches, #demonstrations and marches were dramatic moments, but it was the many years of very creative and constructive programs, which by definition were not spectacular, that have ensured that the dramatic confrontations [...], were not short-lived but had enduring meaning for #humanrights and #peace. #MLK #EndRacism

"#IHaveADream" und "#NowIsTheTime" sprach der Bürgerrechtler und #Baptisten-Pastor Martin Luther King Jr. #heute vor sechzig Jahren in Washington. Was ist unser Traum vom Zusammenleben, für den wir uns mit ganzem Herzen einsetzen? Die Rede: https://video.liberta.vip/w/unNB1t1p2tdxkXHzxUWYJd

Martin Luther #King, Jr. (Aug. 28, 1963, at Washington, D.C.): "...Even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a #dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream. I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created #equal..."

On the 60th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's speech at the Lincoln Memorial, it just dawned on me...
It seems like almost every American city went out of their way to rename one their worst streets after him. The MLK in Indianapolis is part of Michigan Road, just a miserable slog of twists and turns during the 19th century that got converted to asphalt as a sick joke. #MLK #monday
#MLK was a soviet asset!
We won't bow down to the #diversity #rainbow #deathcult. Refuse!
Why? Free Men have a VOICE! Slaves are Silent! We wont play by the color blind rules. We refuse to pretend that ALL 'humans' are equal in any way. That is a LIE. https://www.bitchute.com/video/H53nQBw8P2JV/

Sixty years ago, the Reverend Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream turned the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom into a near-religious revival.

It is the 60th anniversary of #MLK’s “I Have a Dream Speech” and it feels like we are farther away from that dream then at the 50th anniversary. @penieljoseph places today within historical context and provides a path forward. His book The Third Reconstruction: America’s Struggle for Racial Justice in the 21st Century is a must-read.

On this day of remembrance, let us keep showing that #RacialEquity isn’t just an aspiration. Let us reject the cramped view that America is a zero-sum game that holds that for one to succeed, another must fail. Let us remember #America is big enough for everyone to do well & reach their God-given potential.
That’s how we redeem the promissory note of our nation.
