Got up really early yesterday to beat the Moab desert heat and do some Canyoneering with Moab Adventure Center. Two 30+ meter drops and a wonderful hike through Grandstaff. Moab is definitely worth a visit. #roadtrip #moab

Milky Way Over The Double Arch The photo was taken at Double O Arch hike in Arches National Park near Moab, Utah at night. Both legs of the Double Arch share the same stone. Water eroded the sandstone downward instead of sideways.

In July 2019 I cycled the La Sal Mountain Loop (100km / 62miles) near Moab, Utah. Had to start early because of the heat later in the day. Finished the loop at around noon already.

Very nice loop with desert on the valley floor (1'200m / 3'937ft) and forests higher up (max elevation 2'442m / 8'011ft).

The name of the range dates to Spanish times, when the Sierra La Sal (meaning the "Salt Mountains") was a prominent landmark on the Old Spanish Trail between Santa Fe and Los Angeles.

Apparently the Spanish could not believe that the white stuff on the mountains was snow, because of the blazing heat in the valley, so it had the be salt.
