Among my favorite subjects is #lighthouses like this one from #Alabama near #MobileAlabama - this is Sand Island Lighthouse at sunset. Apparently when it was built there was an island large enough for a keeper's cottage and for cows to graze. Today not so much but the state has worked to preserve what's left and there are private groups trying to raise funds to restore the 1873 light.

My vite for the coolest winners of this year's NEA National Heritage Fellows award is this traditional jazz band from Mobile, Alabama.

' The band marched in its first Mardi Gras parade in 1884 and it marched at the head of the Alabama Bicentennial celebration in 2019. '
