Irony of ironies: So so many authoritative websites about Orthostatic Intolerance are not mobile-friendly: wide fixed layouts, graphic images for major links, often with essential info available only in PDFs laid out for printing out or viewing on a big screen.

So you have to sit up at a computer to learn about why you can’t sit up at a computer.

100% fail. It’s 2023! This is not rocket surgery!

DPD's new website has many marvelous features, such as smaller text than before hidden in a huge sea of white space on my large desktop monitor (mobile first) so that I have to scroll scroll scroll endlessly and clock between different pages to do what used to happen on one screen, but my that's nothing compared with my absolute favourite new feature which is the message which appears when payment is successful. It looks like this.
Frankly, I preferred the web twenty years ago when we didn't have to wait so long and things usually just worked.

Der Desktop-Anteil bei Zugriffen auf derentspannen.de pendelt sich wochenends mittlerweile bei um 10 Prozent ein (hier: 11 Prozent von Freitag bis jetzt). Wer es immer noch nicht gerafft hat:

It does not look like you can access settings on mobile (via app/browser) to enable 2FA. I wish more apps were designed with in mind

Am I the only one that gets frustrated websites and especially webapps are not usable on mobile devices?

I mean... how long has the smartphone been around? In digital history terms for aeons?

And still there are websites and apps that their developers seem not to use on their phones....

🤦

Rather tired after a late night (doing nothing, really), but that knowledge isn't going to learn itself! Carrying on with FEDCP and moving on to design with @bobziroll

Nothing quite gets me into a flow than hacking away at my site.

This started as a lockdown distraction in 2020 and it's only recently that I've started to see a finish line.

Some visuals on the homepage to add, then I think I'll be able to give more attention to writing in 2023. Lots in the pipeline 🙂

@kerraspring Glad you got it working.

Word of advice for "next time" -- Making a site mobile is usually a *lot* harder than making it desktop-friendly. Sometimes you don't even need to do much to take a mobile experience and make it desktop-friendly.

can save you a ton of time.

I think your argument has merit. It's almost a sin that we forget to use real estate of the user for richer experience (instead of stashing everything *only* in the menus). As with all the things, this has to be somewhat limited and balanced. Unfortunate reality is that we'll see design a lot as an excuse to cheapen the maintenance cost, years to come.

This is an utter failure by the team who drafted this email. How many potential customers are reading on ? Start by assuming all of them! The problem is that layout fidelity and precise-to-the-pixel design is seen as more important than accessibility of content.

Why the heck can't I open my on my computer? Why does it require a phone in the year 2022?

Yes, I have Spotify on my phone. That's for listening to music hands-free while driving. I'm not finding my phone to open not just Spotify but also my email at home where I do in fact own several computers with much larger and more comfortable screens and better speakers than my phone

Stop telling me to go fuck myself every year, Spotify

@obsolete29 Look at the use of images in news coverage while you're at it.

I agree with you that such images add little informationally to posts. They may serve other functions.

People are innately visual. They're (on average) far less literate. We process visual data readily, textual ... not nearly so fast.

An image may be iconic. Literally in the case of religious symbology. National symbols. Celebrities. Indicia of wealth or prosperity (from money to gold to other symbols of abundance). Tribal signals.

There's little question that images can increase engagement. They may simply be a part of styling or branding.

That said, something that's increasingly annoying to me is "mobile-first" designs of news sites --- ft.com, nytimes.com, and reuters.com all come to mind --- making very heavy use of images. I view these mostly on a 13" e-ink tablet, and all that the images do is crowd real information off the sites. It's a nuisance.
