A less msdos-focussed 8086 assembler would be a good starting point. There's lots of possibilities there!
anyway, long term thoughts. even if i had the time, #Tandy600 dev work is behind "build a new battery pack" and "throw money at a maker to build me some RAM expansions".
Also HHOS (yes thats what MS called the OS - "handHeld Operating System") really is the descendant of the #Model100 OS... The files in RAM have that same incredibly fragile edited-in-place thing going on.
Compared to opening the #Tandy #Model100 or the #NEC #PC-8201a, the #Olivetti M10 is a dream.
I've got a bit of recapping in my future. And some memory to make. And a battery to replace :)

I have a frustration with my #Keyboardio #model100
I'm trying to set the RGB colors of certain keys from the host computer. I've found a plugin called LEDControl that's deprecated, but does exactly the thing I want!
But how do I make it go?
I posted a question on the forums:
https://community.keyboard.io/t/how-to-call-led-at-from-focus-send/6285
goal:
I want to recreate my visual bloom filter project: https://github.com/shapr/bloohm but with my keyboard as the output

I’ve got two projects I’m working on over the holiday weekend.
One involves the aforementioned #keyboardio #model100 and trying to send it led instructions over the serial port.
The other one, I’ll be using some of the info in this blog post (https://www.kschaul.com/post/2023/02/16/how-the-post-is-replacing-mapbox-with-open-source-solutions/) to improve some of my #protomaps experiments. Bring on the spatial joins!

This week I did a video taking a close look at attempting to fix a dead key on my #Tandy #Model100 https://youtu.be/s_7Tjw5ukw4
Quite interested in the #nabu but do I need another #retrocomputing #vintagecomputer project? <looks over at the overflowing shelves with #calculators, #pocketcomputers, and #model100 varients in the workshop>. Would be interesting to see something like #fujinet for it though...

Three looks at a project that fills part of my week. About a year ago I started coding a version of Wordle that would run on my NEC PC-8201a. It evolved and now through the power of a very smart collaborator, it now runs on the different variants of the #RadioShack #Tandy #Model100
But the code is huge! So now it's time to optimize...

Just started to type’ practice on this master piece. This #keyboardio #model100 is amazing. The morphological alignment of the keys, shape and curved plate is astonishing. This is a *human* keyboard! Thank you so much Jesse and Kaia to design it.

My first ever "laptop" computer... This one I really loved a lot.
Best built-in BASIC ever written (by Bill Gates, the ONLY good software ever made by Micros$oft) IMHO
Super cool, wish I still had it.

@jeffalyanak I'm typing on a #Keyboardio #Model100, currently trying to move away from my previous mounting solution (high tenting on a camera stand on top of the desk) to a new one (similar tenting, under the table).
It's going slow. Adjusting the arms precisely is challenging (hence the picture with the keyboard half in my hand, rather than under the table).
Pictures how my older Model01, but the Model100 looks very similar. I just couldn't take a good photo of the Model100 without my desk shown, and I do not want to share the chaos that's on there.
On a completely unrelated note, the last part of my #Model100 mounting equipment arrived today. I'll play with them over the weekend, and figure out how to best place it.
This will be a major upgrade from the mounting solution I used with my Model01. If it works out well, that is. There's a small chance that this will end up being a very expensive, but ultimately useless exercise.
I wrote up some thoughts about a 40%-ish keymap layout I've been using on the #keyboardio #model100
https://cdwilson.dev/articles/40-percent-keymap-for-keyboardio-model-100/
I should build a small (web based) tool that lets anyone compile somewhat customisable firmware for their #Keyboardio #Model100.
Most of the equipment to mount my #Model100 under the table arrived, except for the one part which connects the equipment to the keyboard.
So now I have two flex arms mounted nicely, comfortably placed.... and they're just taunting me.
I have white translucent keycaps installed on my #Model100, they're lovely, and I am no longer bothered by non-matching legends. Life's good.
Today I discovered that when I put new switches into my #Model100, I accidentally swapped the Shift
and Command
keycaps. I normally don't notice, because my personal layout has them elsewhere to begin with, and I don't look at the labels.
But I'm debugging a problem today where I flashed the default firmware, tried to press Shift, and my GNOME popped up the overview, and I was like... WTF??!
