I’ve finally got round to refurbishing my photo "plank". I made it some years ago, from 5mm foamboard, various paints and flock scatter material. I use it to pose model aircraft to have their photos taken on a sort of grass airfield-ey kind of thing.
The board warped, because I was stupid and didn’t think the paint would dry and contract. Anyway, I’ve now forced it flat on a rudimentary strip wood frame. It won’t last, but I have plans for a new version.
Here’s what I’ve been up to recently, between looking after a slightly poorly hubby.
I really need to concentrate on my commission work. The 16 Great Eastern Railway coaches are progressing slowly, but I keep getting sidetracked by plastic aeroplane kits. I’ll perhaps go into more depth about that personal hobby project one day.

The longest journey begins with the first step.
Annoying coach handrails. I’ve got to make dozens, reliably. At first, I thought some form of jig would be useful. In the end, I found simply forming the wire with fine pliers simplest. There is a wastage rate, but it will come down twitch more practice - I hope.

Scoring meant the sheet of parts would stay together, and I could "snap" parts out of it as required.
After a bit of trial and error, I found the setting I needed. While I was cutting, I also created a shape to add strength to the coach kit roofs.
I need to use the kit more often. It takes me a while to reacquaint myself with the software and what capabilities the hardware has. Still, happy with the end results, and a fair bit of hard repetitive work avoided.
I’ve not done a work update in a while. To be honest, I’ve not been doing much work, despite the piles of stuff to do. It’s all this Real Life that keeps getting in the way.
Excuses out of the way, I tackled a job on the Great Coach Build I’ve been putting off for a while. I needed to create compartment dividers for 16 1/76th scale coaches.
Photos will follow in the thread.

I’m spending my afternoon with a very small biplane.
It will, when it’s finished, be an Avro Tutor, which was a pre-Second World War RAF trainer aircraft.
Getting those wings and struts on is trying my patience, I have to admit. It’s when one strut doesn’t meet its location point that frustration mounts.

Well, this is about as far as I can go with this. Like so many projects I do, it doesn’t quite come up to the finished standard I hoped for. Still, I know how to make another one, and that will be even better.
Sorry the photos aren’t better. I’m not setting up the full photo rig for this at present. Throwing unwanted shadows at the backdrop will need some creative lighting to solve.

The sliding doors have to go somewhere. On the real thing they run out onto parallel tracks, on outriggers to either side of the hangar. These are relatively simple polystyrene constructions, with sections from Evergreen and the angle truss from Plastruct. They need to be painted, but that’s a job for tomorrow.

Getting there. The basic carcass is together. I need to find a better paper glue because the printed sheets tend to lift along edges. Another time. Next, working out the door runners and the protective curtain sheets. I’ll also ponder if I need to add a roof.

Remember all those model railway coaches I’m building? Well, I’ve finally started to assemble the bodies. I made a simple jig from scrap wood to hold an end and a side while I joined them with solder. It mostly worked as designed. Three down, 13 to go.

Turns out I wasn’t in the mood for work today. I rebuilt one of my model aircraft photo bases instead. It was in my head and I needed to get it out. Essentially, it’s a simple sheet of foamboard with "concrete" panels to represent an airfield parking area or apron in front of a hangar (that’s a separate project). Adequate for most photo sessions anyway.

First ork I've ever done, loved doing this one.
It is probably also my best effort of painting to date.

It was suggested, so here we are - some work in progress images of a current commission of 16 1/76th scale Great Eastern Railway coaches. They are all etched brass kits, requiring a great deal of forming and soldering.

Heinz Peter Weiß was an outstanding #modelmaker. He specialized in scratch building waterline models of #ships in a scale of 1:1250 out of cardboard. There is a section dedicated to his works on deck 9 of the museum. We have recently added a few more of his pieces, including a few of his incredibly elegant and extremely detailed #sailing #yachts. Here is a goof example of his talents.
The innovative #french #schooner Velox (1876-1916) combined US-American and English design styles.
