Ok it’s time for me finish this DC-DCC conversion of an Athearn Genesis GP9. I started this a few years ago but never got back to it as my workbench turned into an office desk. Things to do;
- build a speaker enclosure,
- replace the original grain of wheat bulbs with LEDs,
- Program the ESU Loksound 4 decoder,
- reassemble it without breaking it,
-and finally weather the model.

An intermodal train heads west across a crossing with CP unit 8759 as the DPU (Distributed Power Unit) on the rear.
To get the telephoto effect i used a 300mm telephoto lens. I was at one end of my yard and the diorama was at the other end about 6m or 20 feet away.
The image is focus stacked and I extended the sky to hide my crappy 1:1 scale fence.

Would you like to see how to make a tree? The boomer diorama channel is run by a retired pro model builder and is Full of excellent tutorials. And #cat cameos. I highly recommend taking a look, if nothing other than to get some inspiration for the new year!

I weathered this #HOscale Ahearn Genesis model of a CN GP38-2CW a number of years ago from its protype photos. I used every trick in the book: oils, washes, airbrush, chalks etc. I think the one thing I would like to change is the pink primer. It’s an oil paint, but its somewhat thicker than I would like and while it doesn’t hide any details, in my head I would like it to be as thin as possible.

So far I've been experimenting with #ELF - detecting whistlers from thunderstorms. As you can imagine, living in the S. Plains of the US are a good source!
I've also been operating a #SuperSID (Solar Ionosphere Disturbance) #VLF receiver but WinPC was unreliable so replacing with a #raspi. I'll post my progress & results!
