I am getting very close to finishing up this model rocket launch control front panel. I need to do a few double checks and cleanups before I send it out, but otherwise, I am very happy with the layout and looking forward to getting it back and assembled.
We had a setback with our model rocket launch controller as we had a bad momentary switch. Once it was debugged (great teaching moment with the little one) we purchased a new switch and were greeted with all LEDs working and bright glowing, nichrome wire.

Just ignore the mess in my office - it does double duty as my DIY hobby space so it’s full of #HamRadio and #ModelRocket debris
Decisions….
Trying to decide between buying a thing for @RadioRocket Ohyo, or starting on version 3. There is a kit that I would use as the base for version 3 of the #ModelRocket. I’d need to redesign the electronics sled layout, but was kind of scheming that already thanks to my chat with the #HamRadioWorkbench crew. (Episode drops later this month) Modeling suggests I could hit ~3000 feet / 915 meters, which is 3x what Ohyo can do on a 29mm motor.

Keeping with the effort on designing a launch pad, here is the rocket launch controller. It is supposed to have a 60's Industrial feel to it with the analog, but some integrated LEDs.
Time to get printing the new rocket launch pad. Need to go to the hardware store and get some parts such as bolts and wing nuts. Fun project to do with the family.
Here's the second version of the BT60 29mm motored Goblin, ready to fly this weekend. Shakedown will be on a F67W. Loaded with tracker, chute release and Eggtimer Apogee. Fingers crossed all goes well, then we shoot for 4k feet with a G80 at LDRS.
Paint is Krylon gloss rich plum with Testors Purple Fog color shift over it.

Everyone is doing their reading and rest activities now, but before lunch we had a good session of #ModelRocket launching.
@rasterweb @adafruit I’ll second that - I have a combined #HamRadio and #ModelRocket project I’ve been working on, and most of the electronics have come from Adafruit. I love that they don’t just sell stuff - that have an immense library of code examples and how-to’s which is wildly helpful for someone like me who is a hobbyist, and needs examples to look at and learn from - that’s what keeps me coming back to them.
We launched model rockets in San Diego yesterday at the DART launch event. This is one I built in honor of Felicette (first cat in space). It was a great way to close out 2022. My kid successfully launched several much more complex, multistage rockets. #modelrocketry #modelrocket
Just starting to listen to the #hamworkbench episode with @qrper - looking forward to this, because I want to build something similar in my garage to have a workspace for our #modelrocket building. I plan on stealing all the good ideas 😀
Here’s a fairly important development in the life of a #modelrocket - I’m getting fins!
At the Secret Lair, we like our special projects. I (Ken) started working on the Starship Enterprise #ModelRocket over the summer; work paused during the fall because of time constraints.
A warm Saturday and the Thanksgiving break meant I could finally get back to the project. The next steps? Priming it a dark gray, then sanding, then priming again.
The ongoing blog post for this project is up on the Lair: https://lairofsecrets.com/blog/starship-enterprise-model-rocket/
I finally get around to unbox the #spacex #falcon9 #modelrocket
The box is well constructed, feel similar to a iPhone box. Inside, the rocket is made of plastic over cardboard core.
There's a display stand so you can enjoy it at home in the open.
Can't wait to launch it. Just need to wait for good weather.
Fancy joining us? @chrisbensen
Looks what awaits me when I got home this evening! #modelrocket #spacex #falcon9
Another #modelrocket #rocketry #modelrocketry project I'm working on is a scratch-built scale model of the Aries mashup that was the Red Tigress 1 mission on 8/20/91. Nothing fancy, physically. BT-60 tube, conical balsa cone. Rear fin shroud was a bit challenging, but not bad. Working on making decals in GIMP tonight I am deviating from scale by just going with one 18mm motor mount. I considered going with four 13mm motors, but that's probably risky on this and not a lot of good delay times worked with a 4x cluster. I have never seen a kit of this rocket, nor any other scratch builds. I love how this thing looks and can't wait to finish it up and fly it.

@arth @M0YNG plus now you have the benefit of being on the only instance with a tooting #modelrocket rocket!
(*claim unverified. Apologies to any other tooting rockets in the fediverse)
I’m a rocket!
For a #modelrocket, I’m really into #hamradio. I’m mostly a VHF/UHF op, being active on #aprs and also 70cm #LoRa.
I’m also really into wide open spaces, the writings of #newton, and getting high. My preference in that final department is a good ammonium perchlorate burn - sends me right into the clouds.
I recently had a bad accident, but luckily my creator has seen fit to reincarnate me into a sleeker, better version of myself. Look out sky, here I come!
