as a former owner of one, getting rid of the Chevy Bolt is the stupidest idea. we are failing miserably to make any sort of meaningful shift to EVs when everything is a heavy truck or SUV. we need these small cars! So often lost in the “bikes are important for commuting” emphasis is the amount of trips everyone makes to non-work places, especially as work-from-home has expanded. A third of all trips are less than 2 mi, that’s a lot of car trips could be easy bike trips. In the last couple weeks I’ve biked to the hardware store, a friend’s house to babysit, my mom’s gallery opening, the grocery store, a local shop for Xmas gifts, and a doctors appointment. #bikechi #modeshift

In his guest column in today's Projo, Christian Roselund urges the #RISenate to reevaluate #RIDOT leadership in upcoming confirmation hearings. Roselund--and local advocacy groups--contend that #RIDOT has expanded highways and neglected infrastructure for bikers, foot travelers & transit riders.
Without #ModeShift, RI will not meet #ClimateGoals.

Comment about #resilience and building additional car capacity vs additional harbor crossings or whatever.

It doesn't and will increase #congestion and reduce resilience.

A better way to build resilience is to encourage #ModeShift via building better public transport and #cycling infrastructure.

In Auckland's case, the western ring (WR) route SH18/SH16 was built as an backup to SH1. Shifting vehicles via mode shift to reduce congestion on WR would be the best move for resilience.
