For years I did want to learn Max/MSP but I did not have the courage.

I finally jumped after rewatching Sean Booth's AMA a few months ago and I'm having a great time ! This is the first part of the sequencer I want to cook to at some point perform and improvise with it.

I will document the process here and I'm thinking about making a blog. Welcome.

Anyone got experience using a midi pad controller in #vcvrack ? i'm looking to buy my first ever pad controller for drumming out beats; I'm leaning towards the Novation Launchpad X, but I can't tell if the hardware is inexorably tied to Ableton Live's feature set or not.

I'd like to eventually use the pad controller for a hardware #modularsynth setup, too. Any suggestions welcome.

Monday evening noodling in #VcvRack; a MusicThing Modular Turing Machine drives two oscillator voices lightly modulated, and also drives some simple sample drum machines for a basic generative rhythm. Fun stuff! I can definitely see the appeal of the Turing Machine now.

The #AnnArborBleepBloopCollective meetup was a rousing success. We not only managed to sync up hardware, but also #bitwig and #vcvrack for an impromptu jam session. The #AnnArborBleepBloopCollective was yesterday and as a surprise, one of the attendees let me borrow his Behringer Neutron semi-modular analog synthesizer. After a bit of clueless prodding I got sound!

This is way more satisfying than making sounds on a computer. I am finding lately that the prospect of doing creative work at a computer after being on computers all day is daunting. This is letting me truly "play" in the childlike wonder sense again.

#modular #synth #music excerpt from a live stream I did on #earthmodularsociety . I called this piece "No MIDI" because... I'm not using MIDI. #Analog stuff drifts out of tune gradually but It's fun to work with!

Technical note : One interesting feature is I duplicated the envelope controlling the amplitude of the main melody, then inverted the voltage, and use that to attenuate the LFO that controls the FM. The result is that when notes first start, there is no vibrato, but as notes go on longer, they gradually get more vibrato. It kind of makes that filtered square wave with pulse width modulation kind of sound like a violin.
