That's always been the #cat technique for #moles: take the top off a hill and then sit absolutely still on the downwind side until the mole comes to repair it (generally two to four hours). Then just grab and play with it until it is exhausted but DO NOT EAT because moles taste terrible and have the consistency of a sockful of forks

Wow...I have some number of #moles creating interesting walking terrain in my yard! How exciting! I get to plant in new areas! I wait until they've done the work of loosening the soil & plant in that area once I know they've left. But this also means it's time for a new sonic deterrent device before I plant. Their tunneling isn't so hard on older growth, but it's the new plantings of natives I'm concerned about. So it's time to shoo them back to the neighbor's grass desert.

"Finger" ice.

This may be related to hair ice, but
it forms on soil, not wood. It forms on the loose dirt of mole hills when the soil is muddy and then there is a hard frost, two or three times a year around here. The ice fingers are rather strong, not delicate frost. They appear to be extruded out from below, rather than forming on tips, like frost.

When the ice melts, there are holes left in the dirt.
