In the vast expanse of the ocean, few creatures command attention like the . With horn-like tentacles and feathery gills, nudibranchs come in a dazzling array of shapes and sizes, each more mesmerizing than the last. Some use camouflage to blend seamlessly into their colorful surroundings—anemones, corals, seagrass, etc—while others use bold and contrasting hues to warn predators to beware.

Fast movers! Brown-lipped or grove or simply the garden snail (Cepaea nemoralis) walking along on a piece of and covered bark that sits conveniently inside a large glass jar. These things are not just fast movers but they are also quite strong. Watch out for the one coming up from underneath, pushing the entire tree bark aside to make space for the shell!

miscellany

I'll pull these two out from the previous CW, as I don't think either is in any way affronting. If you want to see the two equivalent animals (another , and ) see the previous post.
Here's an amended description:
The first image is the beautiful radial skeleton of the Blue Button, or Porpita porpita, a colony organism (when alive), made up of cooperating hydroids. It drifts in the surface waters, using its stinging tentacles to capture small copepods, but will also hunt crabs and fish.
Next is a mollusc, which preys on the former, amongst other things.
It’s the beautiful violet sea snail, Janthina janthina, a free-floating snail that uses a raft of bubbles to keep it on the sea’s surface where it preys on hydrozoa. (Unlike the first, this was taken back home with my D700, not the iPhone3GS).
