Ive been doing a lot of social critique posts, so here is a picture of a chiton I found the other day.
Based on my tentative amateur identification, this is a Mossy Chiton, (Mopalia muscosa). This little mollusk was soaking in the sun in the intertidal zone, likely eager for the water to return.
Chitons, or Polyplacophorans, are severely underrated. As a group they date back fo the late Cambrian/early Ordovician, and share many similarities with the famous Halwaxiids.
A little timeline cleanse:
Two snails hanging out on the boxwood hedge. It’s the only place I routinely find them. :blobcatshrug:
Today’s best columbine flower. :blobheart:
