#Democracy and #Anarchy may be the only two truly legitimate #systems of #government: either power comes directly from the will of the people, or there is no power at all.
I feel like there might be room to discuss #technocracy / #meritocracy in there, or #Heinlein-esque rules about who gets to vote, but I just can't see the arguments for #monarchy / #dictatorship / #SingleParty being valid.

To say we have not come up with and even implemented better ways of doing things is to reject history itself. Would these people say that #monarchy, with its mad inbred rulers occasionally slaughtering the population, was no worse than modern #democracy or #anarchism? Would these people say the #DarkAges, with its plagues and witch trials, were just as good as the Post #Enlightenment era of medicine and #law?
Progress HAS been made. That is a fact.

Anyway, the point is this could be merely a symbolic action that makes anti-monarchists kinda lose hope and so on, as the discourse is changing about the monarchy. (Obviously, PT party is also another reason.)

I wonder when we stopped putting up statues to dead monarchs here in Australia.
I haven't seen any later than King George V (this one is in Brisbane, and there's one in Melbourne as well).
Can't recall seeing King George VI or Queen Elizabeth II as statues, though I suppose there might be some somewhere. And certainly King Edward VIII was there too briefly to score one!

the increased share of the profits going to the Treasury will be used (in #KingCharles words) for ' the wider public good'....
