Whatever happened to "life, & liberty, & the pursuit of happiness" here in the U.S.?

Restrictions to those pursuits seem to be the norm if one doesn't agree with someone else's definition of those pursuits. It's long past time to get over that and let people just be, *particularly* in how they live their private lives.

Yes, this has been a problem throughout our history but we were making *some* progress when I was younger. Now, not so much.
