All the running services are in test status, we can replace them if we don't like them. And if we keep them, their data will be reset before.

So, too soon for the backup and monitoring.

But for doing backup, and backup restore, I plan to use Ansible to automate it.

For monitoring, maybe Monit. Or Grafana. Or both.

HI EVERYONE! The thing that is supposed to make sure that things don’t stop working failed to make sure that those thing didn’t stop working.
As a result of this there was downtime last night and I am very unhappy with the thing that is supposed to make sure other things don’t stop working.
If there are any hotshot #Monit experts out there who could help out I’d be very grateful

Oh I had now set up (reinstalled) my vps with #openbsd :openbsd: ! (guess which hosting provider?)

Using it as #wireguard vpn server. The whole setup on :openbsd: is very neat and makes me feeling sane. Only the wireguard-tools pkg is needed so I need to deploy #monit service to monitor its port to make it running on boot. Let’s watch if wg be down and if monit could refire it up. 😋

Administrating many #VPS is kind of tiring sometimes. One of my VPS running #freebsf, after running for more than 400 days, had its #VPS daemon failed to start. #Monit was constantly alerting.

Setup #monit on my netbsd as a start/stop service for my little process: csobot. Monit is nice, cross platform (distro) . I don’t need to write rc scripts now haha 😛. :freebsd: :netbsd:

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I actually already use #monit and I like the simplicity but it only takes care of the alerting side of things.

#munit seems to be perfect for filling the metrics gap without bringing in the complexity of #grafana and co so I'll give that a shot and see how it goes.

Me studying #auditd, a (quite) native tool for #Linux. Find that it is quite complicated and may be resources consuming. Thinking if just using #monit is suffice.

I finally got #monit set up for my processes and services. Both on :debian: and :freebsd: . Just write another script to grab monit logs.
