I'm really pleased to be rediscovering #Mastodon right now. I think the #federation model really hits a sweet-spot for human social structure. Ya know, the #monkeysphere!

The gradiations of people into layered spheres exactly mirrors how we construct our spheres mentally. There's defederated and blocked; that's "the other", the barbarians in the wilds. Fediverse peers are other citizens. Instance peers are your local community, your coworkers, your union. And so on with friends/followers/lists.
