What other people might perceive as obsessed with a topic or a person concerning #ActuallyAutistic people is the result of our #monotropism. We focus on one thing strongly and thoroughly to get the whole picture. It's also known as bottom up thinking and it takes time but I imo it is also a talent and gives us practice in analysing things. One reason why many therapists don't really understand what is going on in front of them.

The closing keynote is by @ferrous, on monotropism and wellbeing
(Background on monotropism: https://monotropism.org)
Monotropism is basically a tendency to have tightly focused attention/interest at any given time, and is a leading theory of Autism, explaining more of the standard Autistic traits without assuming deficits than most mainstream theories

#Monotropism describes the #autistic tendency to direct our attention & cognitive resources toward a specific topic or area of interest, even to the exclusion of other stimuli or topics. It's an idea that prioritizes our cognitive strengths & abilities & still recognizes our challenges. Monotropism is a word first used by the recently deceased researcher & autistic human Dinah Murray. If you need me? I’ll be in the corner reading about D.M. & monotropism. #audhd
I told my last therapist that my fundamental problem with myself is a sense that I'm always paying attention to the wrong thing, on micro and macro levels.
