Once and for all. The #montyhall problem is not strange at all. There are three doors, you guess at random, you have a 1/3 chance of guessing the prize door. Then Monty Hall opens a door that isn't your guess and isn't the prize. There are now only 2 doors left. You had a 1/3 chance of picking the right one initially, so there's a 2/3 chance that the one that's left is the prize.

reading about and describing the Monty Hall problem to kid and without skipping a beat says says 'no, i don't want to switch doors, i want the goat behind the door that was opened.'

kids are 🥰🤣🥳. i should i started with assumption that she wants the car. after i tell her that she says, I'll just stick with my door and if i get a car I'll give it to you and if i get the goat, I'll set it free. 💜

Reviving the tradition of doing a live show at #MontyHall in award winning Jersey City, NJ, for the #WFMU marathon In March. It's been since 2020 and I think we are shooting for Friday, March 10th. Tentative title is Mono No Aware Time for Sargents. It'll be about time and painting and beauty and longing and anticipation. And it might be funny, depending on your perspective.

@myx @stevenstrogatz I used the multi-door version to explain it to my daughters and nephews over Thanksgiving. They mostly wanted Goats more than a New Car, so we had to change up the hypothetical prizes.

I wound up with 9 forks and one spoon under 10 napkins, and most of the kids still only really understood it after I'd won a couple quarters off my oldest nephew.
