TBH the morel flavor kinda got lost in the risotto. If we get a third bag with the veg subscription this year, I think I’ll do a light cream sauce pasta instead. 🤔

I found morels in a city park again. The children tend to smash them without knowing what they are and adults let their pets urinate and defocate near them. I took some and the mycelium under them to a forested area with the same type of trees they grew under in the park.

Hopefully they will take hold in the forest and I can get some clean mushrooms next spring.

When I was a kid, we would spend hours in the spring walking through the woods looking for morels. Several years ago, I was pleased to discover that they grow in my yard. There are not a ton, but enough for me to fry a batch (which I aim to do tomorrow).

It's nearly Morel season in the northern hemisphere.

If you aren't familiar with them they only fruit for about two or three weeks in the spring.
They are delicious and have a unique appearance which makes them easy for new mushroom hunters. They are naturally found under many types of trees in forested areas and often pop up in urban landscaping. March and April are the best time to find them. When Tulips are blooming, these are fruiting.

If you find some, don't pull them, cut them off just above the dirt so they will keep growing there.

Good luck and if it isn't hollow, it isn't a morel.

"True mushrooms (non-woody) growing on standing dead wood are safe to eat and generally palatable."

Can anyone think of a truly poisonous mushroom that meets these criteria?

More context… the extent of my wild fungal diet is limited to wood-oyster #mushrooms (see rule above) and #morels (the ultimate safe delicacy!).
