One thing you miss out on being a ref is seeing the projects these kids come up with. Age range here is 9-14, or 5th-8th grades for Americans, with this year's theme being "energy".
Projects included:
-- algae powered heat pumps to harvest electricity *and* keep the algae at a happy temp
-- gravity energy storage, with initial power coming from wind and solar and releasing power via gravity later
-- smart vents in houses to better maintain temps
-- lithium battery recycling
-- capturing the heat from compost and feeding it into radiators
The kids are allright.
