Ruth Smith, professor and Graceland College and the wife of Fred M Smith, 3rd prophet of Community of Christ and Joseph Smith Jr. grandson, was very feminist. Love that for her and her family.

she went up to JSIII (2nd prophet, Fred M's Dad) who was officiant of their (surprise) wedding and was like "promise to not ask me to obey in our wedding vows."

JSIII was like "dw. i wasn't going to do that."

love that for both of them.

The Divine told him that it was expedient for them to ordain to her ministers of every race. Joseph was very pragmatic and had his flaws so he added an addendum to "to their own race". this is something the Church os called to repent for has made strides to correct (mostly and doctrinally. individual actions may vary). there is an important lesson in that.

Today marks my first official day as editor of the Journal of Mormon History.

JMH is the journal of the Mormon History Association, published quarterly by University of Illinois Press. It publishes scholarly work on all aspects of the Mormon past.

now going through a presentation on Race and the Priesthood in #CommunityOfChrist specifically.

there was never a ban but i know there were challenges. it seems the prompting of the revelation confiming Black priesthood was the end of the Civil War. There weren't many Black people involved in the early Reorganization, but i think my next book will give more context.

On that drive I listened to some episodes from #LindsayHansenPark’s #YearOfPolygamy podcast where she goes over the history of the #WordOfWisdom and how it came to be what the #ChurchOfJesusChrist practices today. It was really fascinating!
