Started the CWOP Fundamentals course last night, and just finished homework assignment number 1. Good to be back studying morse again, looking forward to improvement of my copy, and more consistent sending.

This weekend is the European #hamradio #fieldday and before heading out tomorrow, I’m preparing all my gear.

That also means cleaning and adjusting my #cw #morse keyers, amongst them, this beauty which has served me well for likely 28 years and continues to do so ❤️🥹

I’m measuring the paddle pressure with a #dynamometer, a surprisingly expensive little instrument, but well worth the purchase: the balance between dashes and dots becomes absolutely perfect 🤩

I actually prefer somewhere between 20 and 30 gram, but these old #HI-MOUND are difficult to get below 35. The springs are getting old I guess ☺️

Morse analytics: If you graph your error rates on practice runs, and generate a trend line, you will see something you probably don't intuitively expect - when you increase your speed or some other measure of difficulty like spacing, you continue to get _worse_ for some time before you get better at the new difficulty level. Proficiency, as well as challenge, have a momentum behind them - getting worse is not a sign you aren't on the path to getting better!

Ik ben gewoon even helemaal van de kaart van de schoonheid en gelaagdheid die in deze serie en in het bijzonder deze laatste aflevering is verweven. Een toppertje!

12 WPM is great! In most countries not named USA, the Morse exam levels were 5 WPM (25 chars/min) and 12 WPM (60 chars/min). General/Advanced here, BITD, was 13 WPM (65 chars) and Amateur Extra was 20 WPM (100 chars).

My Morse is rusted through, I'm afraid, but I can say that getting on the air and making QSOs was what got me to 13 WPM for the test in '93. Never did get 20 ...

First couple QSOs I had when trying to get my code speed up years ago made me realize that PETER is almost palindromic in #Morse.

@N0ZB Yes, I have it, no I've never sent with it!!! 😄 I'm not a big #Morse op & IIRC, the only QSO I've ever made w/a straight key was by accident ... on 2 m ... I was goofing around at a club station practicing sending my call (Kenwood TS-790 sat radio) ... and someone came back to me.
