As per my last post, I started making #mossarium jars during lockdown in July 2021.
This is my second jar.
Various species local to Ballarat, Australia, planted among local quartz.
I didn't think I noticed that fragment of lichen when I planted it; as noted, lichen doesn't survive captivity, and it was soon removed.
At the time, commenters on #OtherPlatforms suggested it looked like potato salad, or a Scandinavian pickled fish delicacy.
Again, a three-part "how it started, what happened, how it's going" post.
Quartz jar 1/3, how it started.

I want to make this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DplCVq0ZDYE #mosstodon #mossarium
This little bit of #moss was on the ground under my #oldgrowth douglas fir trees, tossed down by one of the marauding #squirrels, so I brought it in to decorate my plant zone #fountain near my #wfh desk. Last year I made a tiny drip wall fountain with moss and rocks and cedar bark. Maybe I'll try a #mossarium this time. #mosstodon

If you’re not following #mosstodon, you’re missing out.
I don’t have any wild moss to post at the moment, but here’s a #mossarium I made using native plants from my childhood home. It features a tableau of our old GI Joe action figures, who fought many a war on that soil. Made in Oregon, now living with my brother in Montana.
@scottyoumans I've grown a little moss on tree bark as part of a table top fountain but eventually put it back outside. I'm hoping to try again after more research. Lots of ideas here https://www.reddit.com/r/Mossariums/ #mossarium
