I posted a video to Facebook of my #toddler laughing at her dad. “Daddy s…” she started, fumbling for the word.
“Daddy silly,” my husband filled in for her, continuing to goof around and make her laugh. She giggled some more and repeated, “Daddy silly!”

Cute, right? Not according to my MIL. She angry-reacted the post and left a comment saying “NOT silly, UNIQUE and BEAUTIFUL.” When my husband messaged her about it later she seemed to be legitimately upset!

Now, the woman adores her grand baby, no question of that. But apparently she remains so damn sentimental about “her boys” (my husband is eldest of four) that even a 20 month old calling him silly (when he was being silly!) is offensive.

Can I get an eye roll up in this place, please?!

Imagine being such a materialist that you complain about family members not asking for a whole lot when it comes to gifts. Sorry if my DVD collection, one book, and Lego succulents set make you sad, MIL, but I'm still going to get a ton of joy out of them.

Best of all, I'm not fretting about where to store them in my already cramped space, which is a gift in itself.

Though I am curious how she'd react if I asked for nothing but gift cards.

Of all the things to be grateful for, how lucky I am that my husband's mom adores me, and I love her right back. Sure makes life easier!

Especially since my own mother rejected me, and I spent many Thanksgivings alone, it's a happy irony that I have so much mother love in my life today.

So, we had Rich's mom, now "Ma," over the other night, and I had planned to tell her about my name change process in person along with the discovery that I'm non-binary. Went to greet her at her car, and she said, "Hello, Jae 😉." Awkward moment, because I didn't know she followed us on SM, but it really opened us up to a lovely, lengthy conversation and a stronger relationship.
