Virginia Norwood, the ‘Mother of Landsat’ died at the age of 96.
She invented the digital, multispectral scanner when heavy analogue photomultiplier tubes, mostly bound to the visible spectrum, were considered ‘state of the art’.
> Is she comfortable with the “Mother of Landsat” moniker?
> “Yes. I like it, and it’s apt. I created it; I birthed it; and I fought for it.”
