For here’s the 13th Century South West Gatehouse at Corfe Castle, leading from the outer Bailey to the West Bailey.
Worn grooves in the paving show extensive use (presumably by cart wheels), and the difference, or offset, in height of the towers/gateway arch show the extent of explosives used to destroy the castle in the 17th Century
