Big new climb on Eiger North Face by Silvan Schüpbach, Peter von Känel

The hut was abandoned and burned down by the police in 2005, so nobody could use the hut in this dangerous place.
All that remains today are some small walls. As you can see in the first picture, even more of the hut has disappeared in the deep (picture of this morning).
The second picture is a zoomed out version. You can see the remains of the hut in the center. Everything below the hut used to be glacier.
100 meters higher the new Bäregg has been built, which opened in 2006.
Strange idea that at this place the history of mountain huts in Switzerland began.

Nice article (in German) about the first mountain hut in Switzerland and with it the start of the building of the huts of the Swiss Alpine Club.

The Matterhorn seen from the summit of the Walliser Breithorn (4'164m / 13'661ft). The original plan was to climb Castor (4'226m), but because of a fresh 50 cm dump of snow overnight, we had to change the objective.

It's #MountainMonday and #10YearsAgo we fulfilled one of our dreams. What a weekend, what an experience... we were indestructible 🤠
We climbed Ortler (3905m, also called Ortles), the highest mountain in #SouthTyrol, in the region of #Tyrol, and the former Austro-Hungarian Empire.
We had great weather, a great company, and an astonishing panorama.

@olson Yes, almost to this day 20 years ago, back in 2003.
I can still remember the dash that the various seilschaften did, in order to be the first to ascend via the coulour to the Mittelkarjoch. This is a very steep couloir with a high risk of rockfall, so normally only one seilschaft would be in the couloir at any given time. The first one to arrive has a significant advantage, as the other will have longer wait times.
This was the first tour that I organised for/with friends. We have been done that every 2 years ever since.

For German-speaking (-reading) people who are interested in hiking and easy mountaineering reports in the (mostly Swiss) Alps, I can highly recommend the site https://www.edwinwandert.com.
The always interesting pictures are of course for everybody to enjoy.

On this #MountainMonday I share a pic with you from summer but also winter 🤠
We did a hike to the highest sampling point of the #BiodiversityMonitoringSouthTyrol at 3100m. And we climed the nearby summits of Piz Sesvenna (3204m) and Foratrida (3134m).
Mystic atmosphere that day.

“Such a thing would be unthinkable in the Alps. He was treated like a second-class human being.
“If he had been a westerner, he would have been rescued immediately,” he added. “No one felt responsible for him. What happened there is a disgrace. A living human was left lying so that records could be set.”

""A well-known Norwegian mountaineer has denied accusations that her team climbed over an injured sherpa during a bid to break a world record. Video posted by other climbers appears to show a group walking by Mr Hassan, who reportedly died a few hours later...." We saw a guy alive, lying in the traverse in the bottleneck. And people were stepping over him on the way to the summit. And there was no rescue mission" #k2 #death #mountaineering https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-66471990

Dutch mountaineers are saved today after spending the night on a ridge on the Italian mountain Mont Morion. They came into difficulties yesterday after getting into a thunderstorm and had to call in help. They stayed in contact with the Italian rescue service during the night and were brought into safety at daylight.

Back from an alpine climbing trip to the Engelhörner (Switzerland). We did routes at Rosenlauistock and Klein Simelistock. Did some bouldering in chironico as well.
