Lake Pukaki View
NIKON Z 7 + NIKKOR Z 24-120mm f/4 S @ 120 mm, 1/250 sec at f/8, ISO 64

We’d left Mount Cook and were driving back down along Lake Pukaki and around the bottom of the lake to head towards Lake Tekapo where we’d be staying the night

The view from the Lake Pukaki Viewpoint

Looking along the length of the lake towards Mount Cook and the classic snow capped mountain range (even in summer)

Tasman Valley Views
NIKON Z 7 + NIKKOR Z 24-120mm f/4 S @ 32 mm, 1/40 sec at f/8, ISO 64 x 4 Frames

Another handheld stitched panorama (this one only four (4) frames). This time looking down the valley as you start to head down the steep steps back towards the car park. The view this side still quite spectacular

Tasman View
DJI Mini 3 Pro FC3582 + 6.7 mm f/1.7 @ 6.72 mm, 1/1000 sec at f/1.7, ISO 100

The track over on the right which winds it’s way up and over the top of the ridge is the Tasman Lake viewpoint trail. It’s steep and quite a climb but the view is amazing

You also get a good view of Tasman Glacier on the other side of the lake. Which you can also see the front edge of here just above the waterline

Road to Tasman
DJI Mini 3 Pro FC3582 + 6.7 mm f/1.7 @ 6.72 mm, 1/1000 sec at f/1.7, ISO 100 x 21 Frames

A slight crop from a 180˚ panorama over the road which leads into Tasman Lake. It’s crazy how steep and close these awesome mountains are right next to you in the valley

Surrounding Tasman
DJI Mini 3 Pro FC3582 + 6.7 mm f/1.7 @ 6.72 mm, 1/1000 sec at f/1.7, ISO 110 x 21 Frames

A slight crop from a 180˚ panorama taken at Tasman Lake where it feeds into the Tasman River

Just down below near where the lake joins the river is where I spent most of my time shooting sunrise with my “real” camera

Glow
NIKON Z 7 + NIKKOR Z 14-30mm f/4 S @ 14 mm, 4 sec at f/11, ISO 64

Just on sunrise and the red glow is reflecting off the snow capped peak. A beautiful morning to be out at Tasman Lake

Suspension
NIKON Z 7 + NIKKOR Z 24-120mm f/4 S @ 39 mm, 1/40 sec at f/8, ISO 64

There are three pretty impressive suspension bridges that you cross when walking on the Hooker Valley Track. The track leads to Hooker Lake in Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park, New Zealand

This is the first bridge that you cross (or the last on the way back as in this case). This one crosses the Hooker River coming out of Mueller Lake (on the left in this image)

Bergs
NIKON Z 7 + NIKKOR Z 24-120mm f/4 S @ 120 mm, 1/125 sec at f/6.3, ISO 80

Some of the icebergs floating around in Hooker Lake. Quite blue even to the naked eye

Alas it was quite windy this evening so the water was pretty choppy. Calmer conditions and a glassy mirrored surface would have been my preference 🙂

Aoraki
NIKON Z 7 + NIKKOR Z 24-120mm f/4 S @ 120 mm, 1/400 sec at f/8, ISO 64

Mount Cook or Aoraki (as it was first named by the Maori people) is New Zealand’s tallest mountain. It now stands at 3,724m (12,217ft). It’s actually now technically 40m (131ft) shorter than it was last recorded in 1991 after a few major slips and erosion

Road to Mount Cook
NIKON Z 7 + NIKKOR Z 24-120mm f/4 S @ 120 mm, 1/125 sec at f/11, ISO 90

The drive to Mount Cook is in a word spectacular. With scenes like these an all too common occurrence. The closer you got the larger that the snow capped mountain range loomed in front of you

We’re still about 20km away from where we’d be staying the night but the excitement’s building 🙂

A handheld seven (7) frame stitched panorama taken from Peter’s Lookout along Lake Pukaki. Mount Cook and the road which takes us there on the left. The amazing bright blue of the Lake stunning on the right

The Drive
NIKON Z 7 + NIKKOR Z 24-120mm f/4 S @ 24 mm, 1/100 sec at f/11, ISO 64

More snaking road goodness from the road next to Peter’s Lookout. Using a much wider focal length for this one (the 24mm end of the 24-120 instead of the 120mm end). Mount Cook, though still lined up perfectly, is much smaller in this frame with the winding curved road taking much more space and weight in the image

Mt. Cook, NZ

After a day of driving through very low clouds to get to Mt. Cook in New Zealand, I still had not seen the Mountains.

But once the clouds and fog had lifted, I stepped out onto my balcony, and was finally presented with a spectacular view, but the light was not right, and I to waited until morning to capture this shot before even leaving my room.

Despite the fact that my bags still haven’t been returned (four days since I’ve arrived -.-‘), we’re having an amazing time in

Yesterday we hiked the Hooker Valley Track and saw and

Bags have been found and are (hopefully) in Christchurch now, which means I should have them in the next few days! 🤞

Happy ! !
