It was a pleasure today to see this eastern hog-nosed #Snake (Heterodon platirhinos), found in a flower bed by some gardeners. At first, she spread her jaws to try to look like a pit viper. This didn’t work, so she switched to hissing, flattening her body, and curling her tail. Later she tried #FeigningDeath, #MouthAgape, drool, and even a tiny bit of blood, while turning herself belly up. When this didn’t work, she went limp, including her tongue, drool dripping off it. #Snakes
