I watched They Cloned Tyrone last night and enjoyed it. It's both surreal and allegorical, and I recommend it for its solid social commentary as well as its entertainment value.

Partway through, I had the thought that this was like a Dr Who story minus the Doctor, in a good way. Much as I enjoy Dr Who, the Doctor does tend to feed an unhealthy savior narrative that's absent here.

I lived through that history. And I actually worked in the same building as Francois Pienaar at tjw time the movie was being made and asked him about it in the hall one day. He worked on the script and directly with the production.

It's an incredibly accurate movie, and entertaining too. It's probably the best sports movie ever made. Excellent performances by Matt Damon and Morgan Freeman.

Never been a fan of Will Ferrell or musicals, but Spirited was an absolutely brilliant Christmas film. Ryan Reynolds plays his usual smartarse character but throws in singing and dancing, the result is a joyously silly couple of hours.

Definitely worth a watch.
