Moviegoers beware!

We wanted to see the new Indiana Jones film yesterday, and so we did, no thanks to Moviefone. (moviefone.com)

The Moviefone website was telling me that the afternoon show was at 3:15 PM, so I would have gone over to the theater (literally across the street from where I live) at around 3 PM.

My wife happened to visit the Fandango site (fandango.com) instead - which is directly connected with the theater, and they said the show was at 2:30 PM.

It wasn't a case of there being two screens at the same theater, both showing the same film at different times - Moviefone just had it wrong, and would have caused us to miss the movie.

It was easy for us just to walk across the street to check, and buy tickets for the show we wanted, but that's clearly not the case for everyone, and had we depended only on my initial search we would have been S.O.L.

This is not to say that Fandango couldn't have it wrong for other movies/venues/times, so just be REALLY careful when using services like these to plan an entertainment event.

I noticed this little theatre that was est. in 1941. A classic The NeverEnding Story poster hung in the outer display case, an illuminated leg lamp glowed in the ticket booth. One of the doors opened and a smiling face asked if I’d like to come in. When I was exiting they were kind enough to give me a couple of free bags of popcorn.

Going to a is just not something I desire anymore.

The tickets are stupid high priced, the snacks have 1000%+ mark up. The staff is apathetic to everything. The spaces smell of stale candy and old butter flavored oil. People are needlessly rude. Cannot pause to piss. Cannot just cuddle with partner or friends in a pile. The grain and often imperfect projection distracts. You have to wear clothing. Cannot bring a pillow or blankets. So many other things.

Sure they have comfy chairs and some of them vibrate. Possibly have accent lights that give dimension to the action. Nothing more. Even the stuff is not as neat as it was when it made a comeback. It was a fun new thing that was not and still is not perfect and hard to watch for the length of a film without eye strain.

So...nearly all are using or screens and with the ability to expand sound around us and most of us have a subwoofer with that. Even have the option for with even more virtual surround awesome. And... we can pause.

Tell me again why the big screens and foul smells are worth it?
