I've seen this on four social networks in the #Fediverse now in just over a week - #ActivityPub, #ZOT, #nostr, and #Movim/XMPP. These memes are going around, but what about those privacy disrespecting, deprecated legacy silos like #Faceplant, #Twitter, and #InstaSPAM or #Reddit - Why is it that we're preaching to the choir instead of to the sinners of the #SunnyVale_Syndrome?

Go forth, save those poor souls over on the silos, Tell them that they're pork bellies. Muahahaha!

Has anybody tried using Libervia as a bridge between XMPP and ActivityPub? I'm thinking about giving it a try so I can following people on the ActivityPub side from my Movim instance. It doesn't look all that straight forward to setup, though, so it's probably going to be a big time sink as I troubleshoot it while setting it up.

So a lot of people are suggesting that #threads is a threat pointing towards how Google and Meta killed #xmpp. I don’t want to get into the whole threads discussion but rather point out that xmpp is far from dead. The technology is widely spread. Today it supports zoom-like video-calls (see #dino) and social networking (#movim). The latter seem in many ways superior to #activitypub given the #Kolektiva raid.

Everyone wants to bring back #rss. Why not also #xmpp

#FediHelp: I'm looking to set up some sort of chat/file-share/conferencing instance for my family, about 15 people. These are mostly non-tech people on iPhone and Android.

I have an Apache website on 1and1.com but don't have Docker experience and would prefer something relatively easy to set up on a subdomain or new extension (like .chat), with encrypted messaging options.

I've found a lot of different options, like #Movim & #Matrix, but it's been challenging to figure out what would work best. Where's a good forum to have this kind of discovery discussion?

@fdrc_md @movim #movim is not yet directly compatible with ActivityPub, but there is some very interesting work-in-progress gateway by the #libervia project that will hopefully make it possible to interact with Mastodon etc. directly from Movim soon.
