Welcome aboard. If you're using a desktop then go into settings and enable advanced display settings then you can pin the local server, the global timeline and a hashtag if you want.
It makes discovering stuff a lot more straightforward.
Boost a post make it more likely to be discovered by others, whereas a favourite merely tells the poster that you liked it.
Use hashtags to be discovered by others searching on other servers.
Enjoy the lack of anger too!
