To all my followers, I’m currently in the midst of moving to the mastodon.art server, so I won’t be posting any new art for awhile until it’s done.

From what I understand from Mastodon’s rules, all my followers and friends will be ported over, just not my posts, so I’ll likely have to repost everything as it is 🤦🏻‍♀️😭

I'm thinking about #movingservers. This one is really problematic due to the crazy growth. But the #local feed is amazing! So maybe I'll stick around. I hear @mozilla is making a server soon. I bet that gets millions of accounts!

Since this instance has been a mostly failed experiment I've decided to move my account to mas.to

My plan for tomorrow morning is to migrate my instance to a new server, over at Hetzner, that should be more streamlined in terms of configuration and at least half the cost I'm paying now.

Is there an easy way to export a following list into a csv file so you can add back who you are following when you move from one instance to another? Am going to try to forward my mastodon.social account to the glammr.us one again, and last time only those people following me transferred instances automatically? Everything else was manual. I want to be #movingservers, I'm looking for a fairly well moderated and rarely blocked server. My current server is blocked by too many instances for various reasons. It would be nice if it supported #latexmath rendering, was STEM or technology oriented and had a decent chance of being around in 10 years. Any ideas?

Welp I guess I'll have got get on reposting stuff... I was able to move over followers/following but I don't think there's a way to import the posts. I DO have the export file from the other server, but that doesn't do much good LOL

The confusing #Mastodon #MovingServers process made more sense when I realized why "follows" and "followers" are treated so differently:

The people you follow is a list of addresses stored in your account. That's all YOUR data.

But FOLLOWERS is a list telling you what other people have in their accounts. Moving just that list would not cause followers to update.

So the moving script has to send out a notification to each follower to let them know to update.

I've moved to mstdn.social, leaving my own instance behind (for now)
