Would it matter a jot if MPs were paid more money? Would it discourage sleaze and lobbying on behalf of exterior interests? I guess it falls down to whether or not MPs have any morals. If not, there needs to be rules in place to discourage temptation and punish bad behaviour. Politics should be open to anyone, even ppl from poorer backgrounds. Not just filthy rich MPs.

EXCLUSIVE: MPs and peers have claimed almost £180m on expenses in just three years, charging taxpayers for business class flights, hotels, iPads and professional photoshoots, analysis by openDemocracy has found.

In one case, the Conservative chair of the Transport Committee claimed £51,896 on hotels in London – despite living in a constituency just 35 minutes’ train ride from the capital.

@PaulWillner The "representative" part of representative democracy seems to majority wise absent in the houses of parliament.... except when their own interests are being discussed.
