Granted at the current rate of speed increase, even bad low-level emulation will longterm be feasile on COTS parts that ain't expensive.
For a lot of people, a #VirtualBox on some #MiniPC would likely be sufficient, but then again they likely just want to play something and not tinker much.
OFC a "#MSDOS #classic" would be possible to some extent since #Microsoft #FLOSS'd it.

As #msdos 1 & 2 are completely obsolete this looks like #openwashing… they could demonstrate they really love #freeasinfreedom software releasing #msoffice with the #AfferoGPL.
All in all the other #GAFAM are currently greater enemies of people's freedom.

Thirty years ago, we thought this only would happen when hell freezes over.
15 years later I spoke to Sam Ramj, then head of MS OSS labs, he told me it would take some time. I thought they were faster in Redmond. :-).
That was 2007. 16 years ago.

Did a quick test of pc-ditto on my Atari Mega STE today. It did run and booted an old PC-DOS 5 disk I had lying around. Now need to get a proper version of MS-DOS so I can try Turbo Pascal or something!

352 followers · 1557 posts · Server pkm.socialI remember a #Roguelike from the early/mid-1990s on #MSDOS that was probably a #NetHack or #Rogue variant, but instead of starting in an enclosed cave/dungeon system, you started on an overworld that used a lot of colors, and you could name an enemy before you started your game.
Does that sound familiar to anyone?
