Small schools are neat. The backup goaltender for Luverne is an eighth grader. The third goalie? Also plays defense. She wears #11 when she's skating and #1 when she's dressed for goalie duty.

As the South Saint Paul goalie was putting her mask on pre-game, the backup goaltender gave her a big hug and kissed her on the helmet, twice. My head canon says that they're girlfriends. #GayGoalies

Second goal was heartbreaking. The Luverne goalie decided to let the puck go for an icing call but it just barely slid across the line inside the post. She will never forget that.

Friends, River Lakes did not capitalize on their power play. They did have a successful penalty kill later in the period. In the last couple of minutes there was a penalty shot for Warroad which the River Lakes goalie stopped.

Still. It's 5-0 in favor of Warroad at the end of the second.

That volume of shots is ridiculous.

The goalie can't win it on her own, though.

River Lakes will go into the second period with about a minute and half of a power play left so if they can come out strong and score early the momentum could shift.

Warroad scored early, but River Lakes held their own for a bit.

Then Warroad scored again and started to celebrate. But the goal was waved off on the ice and River Lakes scored on the empty Warroad net (W goalie was celebrating). 1-1

Except! On video review they gave the goal to Warroad, so it was actually 2-0.

At that point momentum for Warroad took off.

I am afraid that Warroad is going to squish them.

Warroad needs to fucking change their fucking mascot already. Be warriors if you must, but there are many ways to do that which are not racist, colonizing bullshit.

Proctor-Hermantown won 6-2. They're the defending state champions.

Albert Lea didn't have the legs; they were losing races to the puck. They also did a bunch of dump-and-chase instead of having a tight passing game.

Albert Lea are a really young team so they may be back soon!

The second and third periods were more even than the final score might imply.

The second period was still dominated by Orono but Mankato East did get on the board with a nice breakaway. Orono answered leaving it 5-1 into second intermission.

Orono scored again in the first half of the third period and I'm done for this game. I need to start laundry and take the dog out.
