Meanwhile the likes of #Google and #TPLink are doing the same thing. PLEASE bring back web based router administration. You are killing the ability of #MSPs to remotely assist clients with setup. It is ridiculous to have to install #Bluestacks to run #GoogleHome or #MySpectrum or whatever TP-Link apps there are. Mobile apps are great for self setup, just stop getting rid of the web interface.

@justaq this is very true, but they have always been an issue from an #InfoSec perspective - which is why ISP's are now offering #SecurityOutOfTheBox with their gateways. I know the @cisacyber has some public/private initiatives specifically for this purpose (helping SMBs), as does #ISC2. I guess we need to setup a #InfoSecCollaborative where Infosec professionals donate their time to help SMBs? Problem there, is who maintains it and where do the SMBs go when there is an incident? #MSPs are expensive and have Customer Service issues (from what I am told). So the question now becomes - #HowCanWeHelpThem?

Busy times for #MSPs can be very random. But the weeks before the holiday season are usually nuts. This year it's REALLY quiet. Not just us. Our client systems are all fairly calm. I think everyone is just catching their breath after the past couple years. It's nice. #InfoTech #sysadmin #msp

@shel @hacks4pancakes It is so hard to get users to understand there is no cure all. Not just residential users - but small businesses. "Just tell me what I need to stay 100% protected online" Um... Disconnect from the Internet? Like VPN providers, there are plenty of #MSPs that will tell potential clients their security svcs will protect them no matter what. Uh, no, they won't. One day talking with a lead that had kids, I threw out the Shrek onion reference about security layers. It worked! 😂

And those that do so in a manner this article describes should be shamed, charged, etc. The industry needs an accepted widespread standards group for #MSPs and #InfoTech repair shops. Not an easy task, but it's long overdue. Articles like this help raise awareness - but MSPs struggle enough convincing people to get a system repaired vs buying a $150 replacement at Wal-Mart and this doesn't help because it's bordering on fear mongering.

Six agents raided this guy's offices for an entire day. Definitely not the way you expect your morning to start! Got a crisp subpoena for "any and all documentation and communication" Sure. Here's a zip file of every ticket and invoice for setting up each server. Then one of his clients tracked me down and starts pumping me for info. "Don't you find it sketchy they want their equipment back?" I was an IT Director for a looong time - that's the way it works LOL. Was really weird. #InfoTech #MSPs
