Parallel stories of determination to the finish line:

I've been listening to a playlist I made for a half marathon race I did in the before time.

I feel similar now compared to how I felt at the 18km mark.

It has felt like a marathon moving through an #academic program, working full time, and dealing with the plague.

This playlist will carry me to the end of this journey - just as it did for the last leg of that half. 🏃‍♀️💨👟

Reflections: What lies ahead

I have spent the entirety of the #pandemic plugging away at a master's in #SocialWork.

While I have a laundry list of critiques of this #academic experience- I wanted to reflect on the next chapter.

My #MSW journey will conclude with an internship that begins in January - centred on macro level policy making.

The core foundation of this work will be lifting up the voices of #LivedExperience to influence system level change.

Completing a #MSW in #PuertoRico was eye opening for me. While I don't want to denigrate my own upbringing, I'm grateful to have had an opportunity to unlearn cultural baggage and truly grasp its incompleteness.

For anyone who has lived and experienced diversity this is obvious. Different cultural contexts demand different approaches. "The right way" isn't universal.

But is anything universal?

I’m currently completing a #research placement that’s kicking my ass, but #ParasocialWork is my personal project to construct ways that #parasocial and #omnisocial #digitalservices could work, particularly for the #DigitallyMarginalised people out there.

I don’t believe every system is capable of comfortable and slow #reform itself, but instead some need fundamental upheaval.
