"Almost €0" for 'original cardboard MTG' (I need a better term...) means having trade binder and swapping with other players and ordering from websites really. Anything new is quickly outside the ~€0.

There's tutorials for optimising a free-to-play #MTGA strategy to not pay for lootboxes; it can be done. To me it looks like it's less-fun-by-design. Otherwise: pay. Still, codes for redeeming decks do get sold.

MTGO tutorials have... "here's how you get free cards" and the penny dreadful format.

In comparing how I can stretch an "almost €0" budget for Magic the Gathering and feel out how I enjoy playing the game I'm trying it's original cardboard format, MTG Online (the first digital adaptation with purchasable cards) and MTG Arena (the more recent one that unlike MTGO has mobile game design conventions as far as the eye can see).

The other obvious-to-try one would be proxies but I don't have a regular playgroup. No-go for now.

With Soul Warden and Cleric Class/Heliod already on the battlefield, the moment you play Scurry Oak, it triggers Soul Warden to gain life, which triggers Cleric Class/Heliod to put a +1+1 counter on Scurry Oak, then you create a squirrel token, which then triggers Soul Warden to gain life to put a +1+1 on Scurry...

And then you've got 1000 life and 1000 squirrels and a 1000/1001 tree.

Any time I've played this combo my opponent realises how much life I'll be gaining and how many squirrels I'll be creating and just rage quits, even if they're winning. It's gotten to the point where I'm probably gonna stop playing this deck 'cause it's no fun having people instaquit.

My first trophy in best-of-three. Pretty straightforward aggro deck with some extra card draw. Dawn of a New Age was okay once, poor once, and I ended up siding it out when I was on the draw because it's not something you want to play when you're trading creatures away. Opposition in general felt pretty soft.

Just got 3rd place (2-1) on the Tuesday Sword and Sandals in the Gladiator: Arena Singleton server, playing Boros Humans Typal. Good to get some results, my one lose being to Mono White control which got 2nd. Still testing between Showdown of the Skalds and The One Ring, but there was some great plays (almost got Hanweir Flip).
