Critical fire weather conditions will exist Tuesday night through Wednesday evening for locations in the interior North Bay mountains, especially for far eastern Napa county. North winds gusting 35-40 mph in the higher terrain, combined with low humidity of 13-20 percent will create conditions conducive for rapid fire spread.

Warm temperatures continue today, with highs from the upper 80s to the 90s in the inland valleys, and the upper 60s to lower 70s at the coast. A moderate HeatRisk continues inland, meaning that there's a moderate risk for heat related illnesses for sensitive populations. Wind gusts will also increase today, with the highest gusts up to 25 to 35 miles per hour near the coast and through valleys.

Moderate heat risk persists for much of the interior today, as highs reach the 90s to the low 100s. This means those that are sensitive to heat (those without adequate cooling and hydration) may be impacted by heat-related illnesses. Never leave children and pets unattended, avoid strenuous activities during the hottest part of the day, and stay hydrated and take plenty of breaks.

A moderate heat risk exists for most inland areas, which is a 3 out of 5 on the heat risk scale. Moderate heat risk means those who are sensitive to heat, especially those without effective cooling or adequate hydration, could be negatively impacted by the heat. Be sure to practice heat safety Friday into Saturday by taking lots of breaks, staying hydrated, seek air conditioning if possible.

High temperatures in the low 90s to the upper 100s are expected across the interior valleys from Saturday into Sunday. Night time temperatures will not cool as much as usual, thus not providing much relief, especially further inland and in the hills above the marine layer. There is a moderate (orange) to major (red) HeatRisk for the inland areas. Moderate risk means that those most people sensitive to heat, such as those without adequate shelter, could be impacted. Major heat risk means that anyone without effective cooling and/or adequate hydration will be affected.

Heat related illnesses and deaths are preventable! At job sites, stay hydrated and take breaks in the shade as often as possible. Indoors, check on the elderly, the sick, and those without AC. In vehicles, never leave children and pets unattended -- Look before you lock! Outdoors, limit strenuous outdoor activities, find shade, and stay hydrated.
